Writing is where I return to truth. It is the place where memory, culture and responsibility meet. I write for people who want clarity in a noisy world and guidance when communities lose direction. My work stretches across journalism, commentary, civic education and children’s literature. Although the topics differ, they share one purpose. I write to protect what must not be forgotten and to teach what must not be repeated.
Children’s Books Rooted in Language and Identity
My journey as an author began with language. For years I taught Dinka to children and adults who lived between two cultures. In that process, I learnt how much young people needed stories that carried the wisdom of elders and sounded like home. As a result, I developed a series of children’s books written in Dinka with illustrations that reflect our cultural worldview. These stories help children grow with identity and pride, and they also help parents reconnect them to their heritage.
Articles Shaped by Community and Observation
I also write in English on politics, governance, migration, culture, media, youth issues and civic responsibility. These articles grow from lived experience, long conversations with communities and more than a decade of interviewing political leaders. In addition, they reflect the tensions, hopes and lessons that surround our people both at home and abroad. I write to inform, to challenge and to guide readers to think critically beyond slogans.
Reflecting on South Sudan’s Journey
I am working on a reflective book based on my return to South Sudan from 2024 to 2025. Through this work, I explore social change, national identity, mental health, leadership, culture and the difficult truths a young nation must face. It includes memories from the liberation period and the resilience our communities carried through displacement. Above all, it is not a political argument but a national reflection intended to last for generations.
Preserving the Dinka Language and Oral Heritage
Another part of my work focuses on language preservation. Therefore, I am developing new Dinka learning guides, cultural stories and children’s books that strengthen our oral heritage. This is a long-term responsibility. Our language carries the logic, humour and dignity of our people. If we lose it, we lose ourselves. Because of this, language work will always remain at the centre of my writing.
A Promise to My Readers
Whether I write for young readers, policymakers, elders, the diaspora or citizens, I follow a simple rule. The writing must be honest, responsible and rooted in indigenous logic. It must also carry the dignity of the people it speaks for. Every book and every article should help the reader understand themselves and the world with greater clarity. Consequently, I treat every piece as a contribution to both memory and future.
